bpeppleFESCo meeting ping -- bpepple, dgilmore, dwmw2, jwb, notting, nirik, kick_, jds2001, j-rod
Hi everybody; who's around?
jwbhere
* nirik is here, but only so long as the evdo coverage holds out.
j-rod ephemerally here
Kick_ is here, almost
* bpepple waits another minute or so to see who else shows up.
* jds2001 here
bpeppleok, we can probably get started.
--- bpepple has changed the topic to: FESCo-Meeting -- sponsor nominations -- David Woodhouse (dwmw2)
* dgilmore is here
bpepple+1 to dwmw2 sponsor request.
jds2001+1
dgilmore+1
nirik+1
Kick_+1
jwb+1
bpeppleok, I see six '+1', so we've approved dwmw2's request.
moving on...
--- bpepple has changed the topic to: FESCo-Meeting -- sponsor nominations -- Jon Stanley (jds2001)
Kick_hmm, let me think....
+1 ?
bpeppleok, there were some objections to jds2001 request, but they seemed to mainly involve bad feelings about the bug process.
nirikI'd like to see more reviews. ;) jds2001 you intend to do more reviews?
dgilmorebpepple: i see no reason not to approve him
jds2001nirik: of course :)
bpeppleI spent some time with jds2001 when he came to Ohio for OLF, and I feel more than confident he knows the packaging guidelines well.
+1
dgilmorebpepple: well i see one but  thats just because he is a cards fan.  but that doesnt prevent him doing good work.
dgilmore+1
bpeppledgilmore: ;)
nirikha.
Kick_cards ?
bpeppleKick_: Cardinals.
Kick_probably either baseball or football
dgilmoreKick_: basenall
jds2001+1 if i can vote for myself :)
nirikKick_: a football team or something. ;)
dgilmorebaseball
jds2001Kick_: baseball
dgilmorejds2001: you get no vote
jds2001nirik: and a football team :)
nirik+1 here
bpeppleok, I see four '+1' so far.
jwb, j-rod: ?
jwbsec
yeah, +1
* j-rod wakes up again
j-rod+1
bpeppleok, I see six '+1' for jds2001's request, so it's been approved.
j-rodand +1 posthumously to the prior motion
(sorry, distracted...)
bpepplej-rod: no worries.
ok, moving on....
--- bpepple has changed the topic to: FESCo-Meeting - EOL date for F8 - jds2001
* j-rod votes for tomorrow
j-rodwas that one of the choices?
jds2001j-rod: :)
no :)
jwbjan 5 seems fine
jds2001by policy EOL comes 1 month after GA of N+2
nirikjan 5 seems ok to me.
jds2001so we're wanting to deviate to Jan 5.
j-rodhm...
only leaves like 3 days after a longish vacation here at RH before the EOL data
date
bpeppleThe reasoning is not to have this occur over the holidays, right?
j-rod3 working days, that is
jds2001yes.
j-rodif there were a desire to push out some last-minute fixage before EOL'ing, might want to give a few more days
jds2001j-rod: we're giving more time, not less :)
Kick_can we move it to the end of the week
?
j-rodjds2001: yeah, I'm saying more more
jwbKick_, no
fudcon starts jan 9
so people will be busy with that
jds2001Jan 5 is the end of the week.
Are you proposing Jan 11?
j-roduh, jan 5 is a monday
jwbjds2001, wtf are you talking about
bpepplejds2001: I believe jan 5 is a monday,
jds2001bah, looking at jan 2008
* jds2001 stupid
jwbcalendar fail
:)
dgilmoreif there was to be more time id suggest only a couple of days
Kick_how about Wednesday to give people time after holiday for same final fixes ?
nirikhow about the 6th?
j-rod7th
:)
jwbf13, ping
bpeppleyeah, the 7th sound alright to me.
Kick_7th is fine
* nirik shrugs.
jwblet's just ask the people that this is going to actually effect
nirikjwb: people who never upgrade?
jwbi meant rel-eng (for pushing final updates) the bugzilla people, etc
jds2001jwb: eng-ops is one of them, that's why we wanted to push to the 5th
j-rodwell, I think it impacts anyone who packages critical core bits
personally, I'm thinking about the kernel
jwbpushing a kernel update on the last day of life is not something i would recommend
if it sucks, you have no recourse for fixing it...
nirikyeah, really things should wind down... not have a bunch of junk at the end.
I'm ok with the 7th, but no later.
jwbagreed
dgilmorewhich is why new CVS branches are already cut off
* nirik nods
j-rodjwb: I suppose there would be that... I was thinking critical bugfix/security type thing that could have cropped up over the break
nirikit should be security and critical bugfix only till the end now.
j-rodheh
bpepplealright, so it sounds like we're on agreement on having the EOL be January 7th, providing rel-eng doesn't have any objections.
j-rodyeah, +1 for the 7th
jwbif they do, revisit
+1 for 7th
dgilmore+1
nirik+1
bpepple+1
dgilmore7th it is
jds2001+1 for the 7th
Kick_+1
bpeppleok, that seven '+1', so we've approved the jan 7 EOL date, providing rel-eng doesn't object.
anyone have anything else to add, otherwise we can move on.
--- bpepple has changed the topic to: FESCo-Meeting - Person responsible for making sure features have test plan scope are in compliance by deadlines - all
bpeppleok, last week we set deadlines for having scope and test cases completed for features.
jds2001wwoods: ping
* nirik thinks wwoods is traveling today.
jds2001hmm, everyone's already taken vacation.
bpepplewe need to decide who is in charge of keeping tabs on these items.  poelcat doesn't have time to.
jds2001I really think that it should be someone from QA.
since it's their thing, really.
wwoods, myself, or jlaska
bpepplejds2001: do they have free time to do it?
jwbif not, we could send out a call-for-assistance email
nirikperhaps you guys could discuss and nominate one of your number? ;)
* jlaska reads back
bpeppleif no one for QA has time, I can do it for F11.
jds2001bpepple: I can take it if no one else does :)
bpepplejds2001: ok, I sounds like it yours then. ;)
thanks!
s/I/it/
anyone have anything else to add? Or should we move on?
dgilmorelets move on
bpeppledone.
--- bpepple has changed the topic to: FESCo meeting -- Free discussion around Fedora
bpeppleok, that's everything I had on the agenda for today.
Anything else folks want to discuss?
bpeppleKick_: are you planning on running for FESCo again?
nirikthere was some talk about the provenpackager populating (say that 10 times real fast), do we want to revisit that? or just leave the existing decision in place.
bpepplenirik: That was for the initial seeding wasn't it?
jwbyes
Kick_I would if there were to few nominations, but as there are enough, no... I just don't have enough free time
jwbrevoking it now would be "interesting"
bpeppleI don't think we can revisit it, unless we revoke everyone's membership.
nirikwell, I don't know how many people have used it... but ok. Just thought I would mention it.
jwbwe _could_ ask people to voluntarily remove themselves
though i'm not sure if that would really do much
bpeppleKick_: totally understandable.  I just wanted to make sure you were aware the nomination period was still open.
nirikwell, or remove everyone who hasn't used it.
jds2001so what's the problem space? The only concerns I'd heard is tthat there's too many folks
and that the methods of getting in there are...lax.
jds2001but i thought that's how it was supposed to be, very low barriers once you're already a packager.
bpepplejds2001: which they would have been anyhow.
nirikwe should I think announce more about why you should approve someone.
bpeppleThe problem seemed to be with allowing folks with >8 packages into the group in the initial seeding.
nirikyeah... so I guess: horse, barn door, move along...
jds2001how else would we have done it?
bpeppleok, anything else or should we wrap up the meeting for the day.
jds2001but yeah :)
nirikwhen is the nomination period over for fesco elections?
Kick_I've checked the webcollage stuff last week, it still displayed random pictures from the internet. There are fixed packages available now with a simple shell wrapper. I had no chance to test them yet, but the wrapper looks ok
bpepplenirik: I believe Dec 2nd.
nirikok. we should try and talk some more folks into nominating.
Kick_do we need more nominations ?
jds2001Kick_: on my rawhide machine and F9, it seemed to display images from the backgrounds directory
unless I took some action to make it do something else.
bpepplenirik: I was going to check to see if abadger1999 was interested in joining FESCo again.
jwbhas anyone asked mschwendt?
bpeppleI believe we currently have 5 nominations for 4 seats.
nirikjwb: not that I know of, feel free to.
abadger1999bpepple: Hmmm... Lots of work.  I'll have to think about it.
bpeppleabadger1999: you got until december 2nd. ;)
ok, if there's nothing else lets put a fork in this meeting.
* bpepple will end the meeting in 60
bpepple will end the meeting in 30
bpepple will end the meeting in 15
bpepple-- MARK -- Meeting End
